The Information Technology Group (ITG) is responsible for: * Managing Macquarie's technology infrastructure * Supporting, maintaining, and enhancing existing business systems * Delivering and deploying new systems, technologies, and servicesThe Group provides each major business in Macquarie with a dedicated team that works closely with that business to understand its particular technology needs.The Division provides the Treasury and Commodities business, with a dedicated team that works closely with that business to understand its particular technology needs. The Treasury and Commodities (T&C) DBA Team within ITG is responsible for: * Supporting new business initiatives and projects * Ensuring housekeeping and monitoring of all database systems * Rostered 2nd and 3rd line production support for database platforms * Processing business requests for general database activitiesThe T&C Database environment comprises of the following: * 40+ Sybase servers running on Solaris and Linux * Multi-way global replication * 20+ Oracle servers running on Solaris * 10+ MSSQL servers on Wintel systemsITG T&C is seeking to recruit an experienced Database Administrator to join a global team which installs, maintains and administers mission-critical, leading-edge Sybase, SQL Server and Oracle databases.In this role you will be responsible for the ongoing service and support of the global database environment along with potential for involvement in key deployment projects related to the platform.Responsibilities: * Providing first-class database support and administration; * Ensuring the availability and performance of all database systems * Execution of change requests; * Administering database access and maintaining database security; * Fine-tuning and optimising poorly performing databases and the related infrastructure; * Ensuring synchronisation between production replica databases; * Running or re-running of failed regular jobs and killing failed tasks; * Implementation of regular monthly patches;
The following characteristics are considered essential: * 2 years+ database administration experience in Sybase or SQL Server and a willingness to learn the other database technologies. * University degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent; * Able to work co-operatively with global technology teams as well as comfortably working on their own; * An ability to work a split week including either Saturday or Sunday; * A quick-thinking problem solver, able to assimilate data rapidly in order to present solutions to day-to-day incidents; * Be a strong, dynamic character, capable dealing effectively with colleagues and business users working in a constantly evolving environment across multiple time-zones and cultures; * Be able to remain calm under pressure and when faced with adversity or urgent issues; * Customer-focused with a “service first” mentality and best-in-class communication skills; * Be able to view currently processes and procedures as opportunities for enhancement, tuning and improvement. * Be able to work to business deadlines * Ideally have experience in the banking/finance industryMinimum required experience: * Minimum of 2 years continuous, recent experience administering MS-SQL 2000/2005; * Currently operating in a similar role within a banking or financial institution; * Troubleshooting and resolution of production problems and issues within database environments; * Change Management processes.Experience in the following areas would be considered very advantageous: * Sybase ASE experience * Sybase replication server * Oracle Data Guard and ASM * Remedy trouble-ticketing system * Solaris, Linux and Windows operating systems * Veritas Clustering and replication products * Legato Networker backup solution * EMC Storage systems * Scripting, in Perl and Shell
